Oracle buys Sun – the end of free MySQL?
Oracle and Sun are two of the most important players in database software industry. According to BBC they reached an agreement, and Oracle will buy Sun. Many software developers, specially freelancers, are afraid this could be the end of free MySQL and free Java. Currently MySQL has over 25% market share in overall database usage by developers. We don’t know the Oracle’s plans yes, but it’s hard to believe this monopoly will turn into a something positive.
